Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Life Insurance In-Depth ("we", "us") collects when you use lifeinsuranceindepth.com, why we collect it, who receives it, and what control you have. It applies to this website only.

Information you give us

The quote form on this site asks for four things, and only these are required to submit it:

• Your name
• Your phone number
• Your email address
• Your ZIP code

We ask for a phone number because a life insurance quote genuinely cannot be given accurately without a short conversation. Rates depend on age, health, tobacco use and the carrier, and no honest figure can be produced from a web form alone.

Information collected automatically

Like effectively every website, our server records technical information when you visit:

• IP address and approximate location derived from it
• Browser type and version (the user agent string)
• Which page you were on when you submitted a form
• Date and time of your visit or submission
• A campaign or referral identifier if you arrived from an advertisement

We also derive a city and state from the ZIP code you enter, using a local lookup table. This happens on our own server and involves no third party.

Which page you submitted from

This one deserves to be called out plainly rather than buried. Because many of our guides cover specific health conditions, the record that you submitted a form from a particular page can imply something about your health. If you request a quote from our page about diabetes, our records show that.

We keep this because an agent who knows which condition you were reading about can give you a more useful answer and avoid carriers likely to decline you. We treat it as sensitive, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not disclose it to anyone other than the licensed agent handling your request. If you would rather it were not recorded, submit your request from the home page or guides index instead.

What we do not collect

• We do not ask for your Social Security number or any government identifier.
• We do not collect payment or bank details. No product is sold on this website.
• We do not ask you to create an account or set a password.
• We do not ask for medical records or diagnoses through this website.

If you later apply for a policy, the insurance carrier will ask for more than this, including health questions. That application is between you and the carrier and is governed by their own privacy notice, not this one.

How we use your information

• To pass your request to a licensed insurance agent who can contact you
• To respond to you about the request you submitted
• To route your request to an agent licensed in your state
• To keep the site secure and detect automated abuse of our forms
• To measure whether our advertising works, using a campaign identifier rather than your personal details

Who receives your information

Licensed insurance agents

This is the main one. When you submit the quote form, your name, phone number, email address, ZIP code and the page you enquired from are forwarded to a licensed insurance agent so that they can contact you about coverage. This is the purpose of the form and the reason the site exists.

Those agents may contact you by telephone, email or text message about life insurance. They may discuss products from more than one insurance carrier. If you ask an agent to stop contacting you, they are required to honour that, and you can also ask us to remove your details.

If you go on to apply for a policy, the agent will submit an application to an insurance carrier, which will then hold your information under its own privacy notice.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers to run the site. They may process your information only to provide their service to us:

• Our hosting provider, which stores the site and its server logs
• Our email provider, which delivers the alert telling us a request has come in
• An IP geolocation provider, which receives your IP address in order to suggest a ZIP code on the form. It receives your IP address only, not your name, phone or email.
• An advertising network, where you arrived from one of our advertisements. It receives a campaign identifier confirming a request was submitted. It does not receive your name, phone number, email address or ZIP code.

Legal reasons

We may disclose information if we are legally required to, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect someone's safety or to investigate fraud or abuse of the site.

We do not sell your information

Every form on this site says we will never sell your details, and this policy is the binding version of that promise.

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not operate as a lead broker, we do not auction your enquiry to multiple buyers, and we do not pass your details to unrelated companies so they can market their own products to you.

Some state privacy laws, including in California, define "sale" and "sharing" broadly enough to include certain disclosures made for advertising purposes even where no money changes hands. To be clear about where we stand: your details go to a licensed insurance agent acting on our behalf to answer the request you made. We do not disclose your name, phone number, email address or ZIP code to our advertising network. If you want no disclosure at all, please do not submit the form.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use very little here. We do not use advertising cookies, and no third-party analytics service is installed on this site.

• A campaign cookie, set only if you arrive from one of our advertisements, so that we can tell which advertisement produced a request. It stores a short identifier and expires after about 30 days.
• Local browser storage, used to remember that you closed our quote prompt so it does not reappear for about a week. This stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

You can clear or block these through your browser settings. The site works normally without them.

How long we keep it

We keep quote requests for as long as needed to respond to you and to meet record-keeping obligations that apply to insurance-related enquiries, then delete them. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. You can ask us to delete your information sooner.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and quote requests are stored outside the public web directory on a server we control. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we do not store payment details or government identifiers, which limits what is at risk.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we hold about you
• Access a copy of it
• Correct it if it is wrong
• Delete it
• Opt out of sale or sharing, and of targeted advertising
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah and Texas among others, have these rights by statute. We extend them to everyone who asks, regardless of where you live.

To exercise any of them, contact us using the email address or phone number you submitted. We will respond within the time your state's law requires, and within 45 days at the latest. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will only ask for what is necessary to do that. You may use an authorised agent, and if you are in California you may also appeal a refusal by replying to our response.

Global Privacy Control

We honour the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser sends it, we treat it as an opt out of sale and sharing for that browser.

Children

This site is meant for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has submitted information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

Other websites

Our guides link to outside sources such as government agencies and industry bodies. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one does not apply to them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of the page. Material changes affecting how we share your information will be described here rather than made silently.
